SnapText AI — Privacy Policy
SnapText AI ("the app") extracts text from videos and turns speech into text. This policy explains what happens to your information.
Summary
- Your videos, history, notes, dictionary and snippets stay on your device.
- There is no account and no sign-up.
- Optional AI features send only the audio track of a video or file, up to 12 still frames from a video, or text you choose to rewrite, to SnapText's server for processing, and only after you allow it. SnapText does not keep it.
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which receives some device data as described below. The app does not request your advertising ID.
- On phones that cannot transcribe speech offline, the app asks for your permission before using your phone's online speech recognition service.
Information that stays on your device
- Videos you pick. The app makes a temporary copy while reading and deletes it when finished. The full video is never uploaded. With AI features off, on-screen text is read entirely on your device.
- Personal dictionary and snippets. Stored only on your device. Dictionary words are included with AI requests (see below) so names are spelled the way you want.
- Extracted text, transcripts and notes. Stored only in the app's private storage on your device. They are not backed up to the cloud by the app (Android Auto Backup is disabled).
- Preferences such as theme and language.
AI transcription and rewrite (optional)
These features are off until you choose Allow in the app, and can be turned off any time in Settings → AI transcription & rewrite.
- What is sent: to transcribe speech, the app copies the audio track out of the video or audio file on your device and sends only that audio. To read on-screen text, it captures up to 12 still frames on your device, tiles them into at most 3 images and sends those images. To rewrite text, it sends the text you asked to rewrite. Your personal dictionary words are sent with either request. Nothing else is sent — no account, name, contacts or device identifiers.
- Where it goes: over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to the SnapText server, hosted on Cloudflare, which forwards it to Groq, Inc. to run the Whisper speech model, a vision model or a language model. The result is returned to your device and saved there.
- Retention: the SnapText server does not store the audio, frames, text or results. Groq and Cloudflare process data under their own terms: Groq's privacy policy and Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Abuse protection: the server counts requests per IP address for up to one minute to enforce rate limits. IP addresses are not stored.
Microphone and speech
The app uses the microphone only while you are recording or using live transcription.
- On phones that support offline speech recognition, audio is transcribed on your device and is not sent anywhere.
- On phones that do not, the app asks before using online recognition. If you agree, your recording is sent to your phone's speech recognition service (usually provided by Google) to be converted to text, under that provider's privacy policy. You can decline and the microphone is not used.
Advertising (free version)
The free version uses Google AdMob to show ads.
AdMob may collect and process the following to deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, sent encrypted in transit:
- your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general location
- interactions such as app launches, ad views and taps
- diagnostic information such as app performance
- device identifiers, including the Android advertising ID and the app set ID
Where required by law (for example in the EEA and UK), the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's own settings.
Versions of this app distributed outside Google Play contain no advertising at all. Those builds do not include the advertising ID permission and never contact AdMob.

Information we do not collect
The app has no account, no analytics on your content, and does not sell your data. The developer does not receive your videos, history or notes. Audio and text sent for AI processing pass through the SnapText server only to be processed and are not kept.
Deleting your data
Use Help & Support → Delete my data in the app to delete every extraction, note, dictionary word, snippet and preference on your device, or uninstall the app.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
